Matt Berkey Films and Final Tables at Daytona Beach Poker Promo Weekend
Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club, along with sister property Orange City Racing and Card Club, invited Matt Berkey, one of the original members of the Above the Felt Entertainment roster, for a weekend of poker activities. The result was a record-breaking poker tournament and livestream, as well as Berkey finishing second in the featured event.
Above the Felt was proud to arrange a partnership between Matt Berkey and Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club to promote the card club formerly known as Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room. The late-July weekend put its new partnership with the GAPT (Great American Poker Tournaments) brand at the center of the action.
The Daytona Beach poker destination recruited high-stakes poker pro Matt Berkey to star in a television commercial that will air across the state of Florida, mostly during special sports programming. The advertisement follows another TV commercial for the same poker room that filmed and aired in 2022 featuring Above the Felt client Jamie Kerstetter.
Berkey also kept busy by playing a special $5/$10/$20 cash game and the $500 buy-in 2023 Daytona Beach GAPT Summer Deep Stack tournament with a $300,000 guarantee.
Above the Felt CEO and founder Tom Wheaton attended the weekend as well. The plan was for him and Berkey to commentate for the livestreamed final table of the GAPT tournament, which recorded 888 entries to push the prize pool up to nearly $500,000. Berkey ended up running deep in the tournament, making the final table, and ultimately finishing in second place for $53,502. Needless to say, Wheaton assumed the commentary duties for Daytona Poker Live without Berkey. And in a twist of fate, tournament winner Charles Campos is a former student of Berkey’s Solve for Why Academy.
In reflecting on the weekend, Berkey said, “The entire weekend was fun. It was exciting to see all the players at Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club, enough to crush the guarantee. If this event was any indication, the sky is the limit for the poker room and poker in Central Florida.”
Wheaton noted that Above the Felt was proud to be a part of the Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club events. “As a poker player and fan, the entire visit to Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club was exciting. Aside from losing my commentating partner to his deep run in the tournament, Berkey is fun to watch. I learn something more about the game every time I watch him play. Everyone who watched the Daytona Poker Live final table stream got a free poker training session with one of the best in the game.”
Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club and the GAPT are already gearing up for the next event. The Moneymaker Poker Tour will be there August 17-28, complete with eight trophy events, more than $500K in tournament guarantees, satellites as low as $86, and livestreamed final tables.
